Coffee with John Kelly – Employee Interview Series

A lot of interesting people work at Oneview, and we love to get to know them. We recently had a chat with John Kelly, Bid Manager. Here’s how it went.

What is your role at Oneview?

I’m a Bid Manager on the commercial team. I work with the Head of Bids and the Chief Commercial Officer to identify opportunities, coordinate our responses and write our bid and pricing documents. We also issue proposals and pricing to existing customers seeking to expand their solutions. Opportunities might come through our sales teams or through open tenders released by healthcare providers in our key markets.

What drew you to work at Oneview?

That it was a young, progressive company with a cool and disruptive product suite. There was also the feel-good factor associated with improving an important aspect of healthcare. I liked how the interview process was handled and I was impressed by the people I met, leading me to think the company would be a good fit for me – surely enough the people have proved to be my favourite part of working here.

Can you give us three words to describe Oneview?

Not your average.

What would you say you have you gained from working at Oneview?

A broad spectrum of tech-related commercial experience; from the numerous considerations around pricing a contract, to how to simply and effectively present our value proposition, to understanding the physical elements and infrastructure required to allow our solutions to function. Learning to balance the various moving parts and stakeholders throughout the bid/tender process has also been beneficial.

Looking ahead, what’s on your wish list for the next 5 years?

Stay healthy, happy and laugh a lot. Spend as much time with friends and family as possible and continually improve and evolve through challenging, engaging work.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Oneview whose job would you want?

Funnily enough it was actually an administrative error that resulted in me being placed on the commercial team, when I was in fact supposed to be appointed CFO – hopefully this gets resolved sooner rather than later, and we can put an end to this charade. Jokes aside, working with our product function would be something I’d definitely find interesting.

Before working at Oneview what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I did a stint selling hotdogs on a nudist beach in Vancouver during the summer of 2011.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise your colleagues reading this.

I trained and qualified as a barrister before joining Oneview, though most people I work closely with probably know that already
